Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-14) today issued the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 5351, legislation that prohibits the administration from transferring any detainee held at the U.S. Naval Station in Guantanamo Bay:
“Every year since 2009 – even when the Democrats controlled Congress – we’ve passed legislation stopping the president from transferring dangerous terror suspects held at Guantanamo Bay to the United States. Still, the president has started transferring detainees to other countries and the results are dangerous. According to the Director of National Intelligence, approximately one-third of released detainees return to terrorism. Capturing terrorists only to send them out into the world to terrorize again is the kind of thing that makes people lose faith in our government.”
H.R. 5351 passed the House by a vote of 244 to 174.
